Three Rivers has quickly become the most dominant performance sire Ellingsons have produced. He had the heaviest adjusted yearling weight in Ellingson Ranch history at 1778 pounds. He is unrivalled for early growth and feed conversion. His Chaps damn is a fancy young cow that has already migrated to the donor pen. Three Rivers is at the top of multiple traits with an exceptional phenotype and is considered a foot improver. His WW,YW, Claw & Angle EPD’s are all in the top 1% of the breed without sacrificing the maternal side of the equation. Ellingson Three Rivers was the hottest sire group at the Ellingson 2021 Bull sale averaging over $12,500 on 60+ Sons. He is a Cattlemens kind of sire. We bred sparingly to him with a few calves in the Bull Sale Pen. We bred much heavier to him this spring & look forward to this upcoming group of Three Rivers calves.

At Reid Angus we have always had great success with calving ease sires. Rainfall does that, he brings calving ease, maternal strength and performance together. These are fundamental elements to build from. He sires added length, soundness and an unmistakeable herd Bull presence in his sons, while his daughters are stunning and an elegant maternal package. He is likely the next great calving ease sire from S A V. The profile sets him apart with his dominating hip & rear leg structure. He demonstrates a tremendous muscle pattern & a flawless phenotype. We are excited to see how his Bull calves continue to develop. There will be a strong offering of Rainfall sons in our 2023 Bull Sale offering.

Attractive is exactly that; he demonstrates moderate birthweight but has the ability to build broad topped, deep sided Bulls, that have added growth and are set on a solid, well structured foot. The results of breeding to Attractive are so compelling that it is hard to stray away from what he contributes to a program. We certainly like what he contributes to our program in both the Bull & heifer pens. We will be calving a larger group of his daughters this year & look forward to seeing how they continue to develop. These heifers are deep & thick but carry a softness that is very appealing.

Black gold has proven himself as a calving ease sire with growth and shape in one eye pleasing package. Check out his Canadian Angus EPD‘s : calving ease +12, BW -0.9 WW+75 YW +124 and this is on 511 progeny analyzed. We have always been impressed with Black Gold’s post weaning growth. Out of a Connelly Right Answer dam, it was her udder quality & foot structure that really attracted us to this bull. Some breeders have expressed concern about Black Gold’s sons & daughters temperament –  we have not experienced any of that. In fact we find his progeny is very easy to work with.

BASIN PAYWEIGHT 1682

BASIN PAYWEIGHT 006S x 21AR O LASS 7017

Payweight is a 10 yr old Bull that breeders have rediscovered. He has been one of the highest demand sires for more than a decade and with the recent reduction in his semen price and the increased availability he has seen renewed interest in use across the beef industry. His sons have topped bull sales across the nation for the past four years and few calving ease bulls in Angus history have ever offered the body mass and depth that is a trademark of Payweight and his progeny. Payweight females display his depth of body and his easy fleshing ability, with a nice udder structure and a brood cow look. His daughters have topped Angus sales across the continent. A full sister set a Montana Angus record when a 1/2 interest in her sold for $210,000. We are excited to see how his offspring continue to develop and how well they will blend into our program.

Many great cattleman will tell you by her bowl based on his mother. Well Limit Ups mother has done it consistently. In our “Heat Seeker 2017 Bull Sale” 66 Ranch purchased a legacy sun out of RA Milne 60A. In 2018 Spring Coulee Ranch purchased the high seller out of RA Lady Milne 60A a SAV Harvestor son. In 2019 she produced this remarkable SAV Regard son, R A Limit Up 6F. She raised three outstanding herd Bulls, three years in a row out of three different sires. Last year she raised twins and weaned off a total of 1565 pounds that’s more than she weighs. She calves in the first cycle every year and she did it again this year even while raising twins. We will be using 6F heavier in the future. We have been very impressed by the power, performance and structural correctness he puts in his offspring.

At Reid Angus we truly believe that “females are our foundation”. As you look back through the pedigrees of many of the females in the Reid Angus herd you will see that many of our mother cows go back to 2 dominant Sires that have demonstrated a consistent maternal influence not only in our herd but in the Angus Breed as a whole. OCC Legacy 839L and Reid Angus Advantage 11U are two such sires.

The influences of Legacy and 11U are very significant in our breeding program. We used 11U on Legacy daughters and Legacy on 11U daughters. These two sires formed some of the foundation females that our program is built around.

“Legacy” sires absolutely superb Females, that are very fertile, with beautiful udders, exceptional fleshing ability, great mothers, and flawless phenotype. Dallas Jensen of Crowfoot Cattle Co. says that Legacy was probably the most influential sire in their program and did more things right than any sire they ever used. Legacy sons are always eyecatchers that display strong masculine Angus characteristics. His damn OCC Dixie Erica was a very prominent donor at Ohlde Cattle Company and was the damn of many great Bulls. However, Legacy was a rare natural calf by this great matron. Maternal strength and structural soundness in any breed will never go out of style. We have always bred to him with confidence & have built a solid base of Foundation Females because of his influence.

Sometimes you have to be lucky to be good but you also have to be good to be lucky. That is the case when we developed our home-raised herdsire Reid Angus Advantage 11U. He was the Grand Champion Angus Bull at the Medicine Hat Bull Sale in 2009 and was also a Silver medallist at the 2009 World Angus Forum at Spruce Meadows. One of his first daughters was Heifer Calf Champion at the Olds Fall Classic in 2010. He was the kind of herdsire Reid Angus’ program was built around. He is a broad based, (free moving),structurally sound (bull) with a beautiful muscle (pattern)and natural fleshing ability. 11U is a genuine calving ease bull. We used him extensively on most of our first calf heifers. His shorter gestation period produces later birthweight calves. His genetic influence runs deep in our program. You will be impressed with what his daughters have done for our program.
